AI in Clinical Practice: Transforming Healthcare in Aotearoa

This conference provides a uniquely New Zealand perspective on the clinical use of AI, grounded in local case studies, policy direction, and frontline experience. Attendees will hear directly from clinicians and health leaders who are implementing AI in clinical settings today, including case studies on diagnostic imaging, decision support tools and patient monitoring systems sharing insights on successeschallenges anembedding tools safely into real clinical workflows. The programme balances innovation with responsibility, exploring governance, ethics, equity, and workforce capability alongside clinical outcomes. Participants will leave better equipped to make informed decisions about adopting, scaling, and governing AI to improve patient care across Aotearoa’s health system. 

This conference is for clinicians, clinical leaders, and health professionals who want to better understand and apply AI in clinical settings, as well as those responsible for adopting or governing these tools. Dr Hon. Rob Stokes

Rob Stokes is Group Executive – Housing at Anglicare, focusing on the provision of social and affordable housing infrastructure. He also supports a number of organisations focused on the built environment, as Chair of Faith Housing Australia; Director of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects; Trustee of the King’s Foundation Australia; and the Commonwealth Government’s Urban Policy Forum. Rob is a Professor of Public Policy at UNSW and holds qualifications in planning law and urban policy. Rob served as a NSW Government Minister across a range of infrastructure portfolios between 2014 and 2023 and served as Chair of the Infrastructure Committee of the NSW Cabinet.

Roger Gray

Roger is the CEO of Port of Auckland and was appointed in March 2022. During his career he has led businesses across the Maritime, Aviation, FMCG and Private Equity sectors in both New Zealand and Australia. Before joining the Port of Auckland, Roger was the CEO of Lyttleton Port Company for two years. Lyttleton is the main import and export hub of the South Island. Prior to Lyttleton Port Company he worked at Air New Zealand for 6.5 years where his last role was Group General Manager Airports, overseeing all ground handling and lounge operations at 55 airports around the globe, covering 2,800 staff who handle 18 million passengers annually. In his time at Goodman Fielder he held several senior leadership positions, including Managing Director of Quality Bakers – New Zealand. Earlier in his working life Roger served for 20 years in the Australian Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Roger holds bachelor degrees in arts and economics, a Masters of Business in Integrated Logistics and an MBA. More recently Roger has completed executive education at INSEAD and Kellogg School of Management. Roger joined the Board of NZ Post in July 2024.

Pat Dougherty

Pat Dougherty is currently the Chief Executive of Wellington Water. He has over 35 years’ experience working in local government, including ten years as Chief Executive of the Kapiti Coast District Council and five years as Chief Executive of the Nelson City Council. He has an extensive infrastructure / asset management background, particularly in Three Waters. For over four years he was on a series of advisory groups providing advice to DIA on the establishment of Taumata Arowai and Three Waters Reforms (now the Affordable Water Reform programme). He was a Board member of the Mackays to Pekapeka Expressway Alliance from 2011 – 2017 and is currently on the Board of the NZ Transport Agency. Pat holds two degrees – a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and a Master of Business Administration (with Distinction). He is a Member of the Institute of Directors and a Chartered Member of Engineering NZ.

Throughout her career, she has pioneered creative research and modelling techniques, specialising in understanding car ownership and use, travel behaviour change, demand management and the impacts of road pricing. Her career has spanned the public and private sectors, working across the globe on projects to reduce congestion, improve air quality and reduce carbon emissions.

Aaron Goldsbury

Aaron Goldsbury is the Chief Engineer at Fonterra, where he leads the Co‑op’s global engineering and asset management function and drives large‑scale transformation across its extensive (and aging) manufacturing network. In this role, he brings together all of Fonterra’s engineering disciplines into a unified Global Engineering team, advancing innovation through digital, AI, robotics, and predictive technologies, and striving to deliver greater value from the Co‑op’s $1 billion annual investment in capital and maintenance. With a career at Fonterra spanning multiple senior engineering and capital delivery roles, Aaron has played a pivotal role in shaping asset performance, engineering strategy, and major investment programmes across New Zealand’s largest industrial footprint. Aaron is widely recognised for his leadership in operational excellence and for orchestrating some of Fonterra’s most complex engineering undertakings. Most recently, he has overseen the Co‑op’s large‑scale maintenance programmes, such as Winter Shut, coordinating thousands of tasks across more than 650,000 site assets and leading teams of over 1,600 employees and 640 vendors to ensure safe, reliable and efficient seasonal start‑ups across 22 manufacturing sites. A strong advocate for talent development and inclusive leadership, Aaron frequently contributes to industry and professional forums, sharing insights on engineering transformation, digital innovation, and the future of industrial operations. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from the University of Canterbury

Paul Bagg

Paul Bagg is the Lead Advisor Emergency Management at NZTA Waka Kotahi, where he joined after his role as National Lifelines Utility Coordinator at (the then) Ministry of Civil Defence Emergency Management (MCDEM). He is a Chartered Electrical Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) gained from his time in the energy industry spanning some 36 years in the UK and NZ. He has been actively involved in NZLC activities over the past decade for both NZTA and MCDEM, and a member of NZLC since 2016. Paul has been involved in Emergency Management in NZ since joining the Karori Civil Defence team as a volunteer in 2007  

Peter Vial

Peter Vial has been New Zealand Country Head at Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand since 2017.   In this role he leads the NZ regulatory, professional conduct and advocacy functions. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant and a lawyer.  Earlier in his career Peter worked for PwC and KPMG in Tax and for the NZ Trade Development Board as a Trade Commissioner in Europe.  He has also been an Associate Professor at Auckland University.

Corrigan Sowman

Corrigan is a 3rd generation dairy farmer and Chairman of the breeding cooperative LIC. He farms in partnership with his wider family in Golden Bay on a 450ha dairy farm. He is a past Kellogg and Nuffield Scholar, former member of Fonterra’s Sustainability Advisory Panel, past Deputy Chair of DairyNZ Environment Leaders program and past Chair of the SIDE and SIDDC. His earlier career as a consulting officer and farm consultant has led to a life long interest in working to develop New Zealand’s dairy sector and he appreciates the opportunity to contribute to the success of the Primary Industry Awards in 2025.

Alan Emerson

Alan Emerson started his agricultural journalism career in 1973 working for television and national and commercial radio presenting rural programmes. In 2003 he purchased a farm in coastal Wairarapa. He served on the provincial executive of Federated Farmers for three years until writing commitments presented a potential conflict of interest. Since 2004 he has been a columnist for Farmers Weekly, (since its inception), never missing an edition over that time. He has edited and co-written three books on agriculture. In 2024 he was awarded the Ravensdown Agricultural Communicator of the Year.

Justin Courtney

Justin Courtney is the Chair of weather data provider Metris. Metris provides weather insights to the horticulture, viticulture and construction sectors, and has recently received international awards for its forecast services and its innovative in-orchard technology. Justin is also the founder of Dawn Chorus Consulting which provides advice to companies in the food and fibre sector. Justin’s 25-year career in agribusiness started with the Victorian Farmers Federation and has spanned work in the UK, EU and Middle Eastern markets. On returning to New Zealand he worked in the dairy industry before leading Silver Fern Farms communications and sustainability efforts for close to a decade.
