Louise Green is a highly respected education leader with 50 years’ experience and a deep commitment to supporting school leadership and strengthening public education. She has served as a teacher, Deputy Principal, and Principal across diverse rural and urban communities, including 24 years leading four schools. Louise joined NZEI Te Riu Roa as a Principal Support Officer and now continues this work as Executive Officer in the National Office. A long-standing and passionate union advocate, she served 13 years on National Executive, was Te Manukura (National President) in 2015–16, and led the principals’ negotiating team in 2017–18.

Michael Stride

Michael Stride is an experienced Infrastructure Manager with a strong background in property, capital works, and strategic asset management across the education and community sectors. He leads large-scale project portfolios, oversees compliance and risk management, and works closely with principals, boards, and stakeholders to ensure high‑quality delivery. Michael brings a commercial lens from previous senior roles in property management as well as the financial sector, enabling him to balance practical solutions with long‑term strategic planning.

Kirsty Dowding

Kirsty Dowding is the Principal of Hobsonville Point Secondary School, where she has been leading the school for the past 2.5 years. She has previously held senior leadership roles as Deputy Principal at Rangitoto College and Kaipara College, and worked for the Ministry of Education as a Lead Advisor. Kirsty is excited about implementing the new curriculum and is leading her school through significant change, including roll growth, innovative building design, and ongoing pedagogical development.

Anna-Marie McAleer

Originally from Canada, Anna-Marie McAleer brings 26 years of experience to her role as Principal at Glamorgan School, Torbay, which she commenced in 2024. Following her start in Canadian primary schools, she held senior leadership positions, including Deputy Principal at Murrays Bay Intermediate and Vice Principal at the Canadian International School in Singapore.

Holding a Masters Degree with Honors in Curriculum Design, Anna-Marie is deeply committed to educational leadership and fostering school environments where purpose-driven educators can thrive. She feels privileged to work in such a passionate profession. Outside of work, she is dedicated to health and fitness, enjoying the sea, sand, and sun with her husband, friends, family, and two golden retrievers.

Rachael Judge

Rachael advises and represents clients in all aspects of employment and education law, including both contentious and non-contentious matters. Rachael regularly attends mediations and represents clients in Employment Relations Authority, Employment Court and Human Rights Review Tribunal matters. Rachael advises on personal grievance claims, restructurings, disciplinary and performance management processes, holiday pay compliance, human rights and privacy, collective bargaining, and investigations. Rachael also has a depth of experience in education law and acts for several independent and state schools on matters such as terms of enrolment, student disciplinary issues, student human rights claims, school policies and the Children’s Act 2014. She also advises schools in relation to their employment agreements and staff disciplinary issues.

Julie Schumacher

Julie has an extensive background of over 30 years leading change in schools. Until recently, she was Principal at Clevedon School in Auckland. She has led the school for the past 10 years on a successful improvement pathway from being in statutory management to becoming an extremely successful, high performing school. She was the Lead Principal in the Howick Coast Kāhui Ako in East Auckland and has worked to lead the successful development of collaborative practice and improvement from early childhood through to secondary across the seven schools within this Kahui Ako. She led the cluster implementation of the new Learning Support Delivery model. She is experienced in working with Senior Leadership teams, Middle Leaders, Kāhui Ako, and teachers in the areas of organisational improvement, strategic planning, coaching/mentoring, curriculum leadership, effective pedagogical practices. She is a passionate leader with high expectations and understanding of how quality education can make a difference for all students.

Bernadette Hall

With a career rooted in the belief that leadership thrives on diverse experiences, Bernadette serves as a Principal with a proven track record of school transformation. Now in her fifth year of Principalship, she brings a strategic and values based lens to education, backed by a Master’s in Educational Leadership and degrees in English and Education, and Diplomas in Theology and Business. Bernadette’s impact is defined by tangible results: from securing independent board governance to pioneering curriculum structures that support both staff wellbeing and student achievement. Also increasing the male representation in education, and overseeing several major infrastructure developments. Having served in leadership roles across different regions in the country, both state and state integrated schools, Bernadette brings a unique perspective to her current community of 500+ students. Bernadette is a vocal advocate for student’s holistic development and also for leadership development. Brenda Martin

Wiri Warriner is the Principal of Orewa College, a large co-educational secondary school on Auckland’s Hibiscus Coast, a role he has held for the past two years. Prior to this, Wiri served in senior leadership across two large co-educational high schools, with a strong focus on curriculum design, teaching and learning, student wellbeing, and organisational improvement. He is currently leading significant strategic work at Orewa College, including the development of a full immersion Rumaki Reo programme, expanding academic and vocational pathways, and navigating rapid roll growth and property development. Wiri is particularly interested in how large schools can maintain strong connection and coherence with their local community, while continuing to grow and evolve.

As the Regional Manager Education Services Auckland office for the past decade, Kirstin is responsible for overseeing the provision of accounting services to schools; delivering comprehensive financial support and strategic guidance to Principals and Boards. She excels at translating complex financial information into accessible advice, striving to support principals in a manner that is engaging and easily understood, even by those that are number averse.

Kirstin’s entire career has been focused on the public sector having previously spent eight years as an auditor with Audit New Zealand. This experience provides a robust foundation in governance, compliance, and financial rigor.

Bryan Rehutai

Bryan Rehutai is the Tumuaki (Principal) of Te Uru Karaka Newton Central School (Ngāti Porou, Tahiti), and a school leader committed to culturally responsive practice and equity. Our kura is proudly Te Tiriti o Waitangi based; we were the first in New Zealand to establish a formal co-governance structure. This experience has given him unique, practical insights into embedding Te Tiriti principles at the governance and operations level. In his presentation Bryan will guide you through practical approaches for building cultural capability and ensuring equitable outcomes for learners. Ernie currently serves as Principal Support Officer with the NZEI Te Riu Roa. A first-time principal in 1982, he has accumulated over 30 years’ experience in school leadership, was president of the Nelson Branch NZEI TRR, the Marlborough Principals’ Assoc and served also on the New Zealand Principals Federation for 11 years, two of which as National President. Experience in working at both local and national levels with peak sector organisations have given Ernie a well-founded understanding and connectedness of how things might be progressed and how support is best co-constructed.

Sam Turner

Sam Turner is a school principal within his first five years of principalship, having previously worked as a teacher, team leader, unit holder, and associate principal. He has been principal of his current school for almost three years and has loved every minute of the role, learning constantly as he deepens his understanding and refines his practice through experience and reflection. While deeply committed to his work, Sam believes his most important roles are as a dad, husband, and son. His leadership focuses on creating a school where staff and students want to be, and advocating equity for all tamariki.

Todd’s practice is grounded in inclusive, evidence-informed approaches, supporting both student success and staff capability. Gill Maher

Gill Maher has worked for the Ministry of Education for 23 years and is currently the Infrastructure Manager for the Canterbury, Chatham Islands Region. She manages a team of eight property professionals based in Christchurch who act as key links between schools and the Ministry of Education. Her team provide expert guidance on managing school property, developing asset plans, ensuring compliance, overseeing maintenance/capital projects, managing emergencies (like flood/fires) and keeping asset data accurate. She also works with School Boards to plan for long-term needs, implement funding and manage contracts to ensure school property supports teaching goals.

Dr Catherine Law

Catherine Law is the Principal | Tumuaki of Avonside Girls’ High School | Te Kura Kohine o Ōtākaro in Christchurch. She is also a member of the National Curriculum Coherence group and seconded to the Ministry of Education as Programme Lead for the Years 11-13 subject development. Catherine taught in the UK and in the International system before moving to New Zealand in 2002 and has experience of the NCEA, Cambridge and IB curricula and qualification systems. Her passion and expertise are in curriculum and pedagogy, and she has held leadership positions in these areas in schools in Auckland and Hawkes’ Bay before becoming principal of Avonside Girls’ High School. From 2017 she worked with the KERU project at the University of Auckland and has led work on knowledge rich curriculum design through Kahui Ako and school groups. Catherine completed her Doctorate in Education in 2024. Her research work was focused on what teachers think and do when designing curriculum and the process of recontextualising curriculum for schools and for the classroom. She has presented her research at the Pacific Circle Consortium conference (2022) and NZARE conference (2021).

Shane is the current Principal of Whītau School, a culturally diverse school in Christchurch East. Shane is currently in his fifth year as an elected Executive Board member of the New Zealand Principals’ Federation, taking an active role in the Curriculum Pou and is the Business Partnership Convenor. As Immediate Past President of Canterbury Primary Principals’ Association, he has been actively involved in the regional leadership as an executive member for 13 years, with business partnership liaison and membership hauora as key portfolio areas undertaken.

Louise Green is a highly respected education leader with 50 years’ experience and a deep commitment to supporting school leadership and strengthening public education. She has served as a teacher, Deputy Principal, and Principal across diverse rural and urban communities, including 24 years leading four schools. Louise joined NZEI Te Riu Roa as a Principal Support Officer and now continues this work as Executive Officer in the National Office. A long-standing and passionate union advocate, she served 13 years on National Executive, was Te Manukura (National President) in 2015–16, and led the principals’ negotiating team in 2017–18.

Following her start in Canadian primary schools, she held senior leadership positions, including Deputy Principal at Murrays Bay Intermediate and Vice Principal at the Canadian International School in Singapore.

Holding a Masters Degree with Honors in Curriculum Design, Anna-Marie is deeply committed to educational leadership and fostering school environments where purpose-driven educators can thrive. Rachael regularly attends mediations and represents clients in Employment Relations Authority, Employment Court and Human Rights Review Tribunal matters. Rachael advises on personal grievance claims, restructurings, disciplinary and performance management processes, holiday pay compliance, human rights and privacy, collective bargaining, and investigations. Rachael also has a depth of experience in education law and acts for several independent and state schools on matters such as terms of enrolment, student disciplinary issues, student human rights claims, school policies and the Children’s Act 2014. Gill Maher has worked for the Ministry of Education for 23 years and is currently the Infrastructure Manager for the Canterbury, Chatham Islands Region. She manages a team of eight property professionals based in Christchurch who act as key links between schools and the Ministry of Education. Her team provide expert guidance on managing school property, developing asset plans, ensuring compliance, overseeing maintenance/capital projects, managing emergencies (like flood/fires) and keeping asset data accurate. She also works with School Boards to plan for long-term needs, implement funding and manage contracts to ensure school property supports teaching goals.

Dr Catherine Law

Catherine Law is the Principal | Tumuaki of Avonside Girls’ High School | Te Kura Kohine o Ōtākaro in Christchurch. She is also a member of the National Curriculum Coherence group and seconded to the Ministry of Education as Programme Lead for the Years 11-13 subject development. Catherine taught in the UK and in the International system before moving to New Zealand in 2002 and has experience of the NCEA, Cambridge and IB curricula and qualification systems. Her passion and expertise are in curriculum and pedagogy, and she has held leadership positions in these areas in schools in Auckland and Hawkes’ Bay before becoming principal of Avonside Girls’ High School. From 2017 she worked with the KERU project at the University of Auckland and has led work on knowledge rich curriculum design through Kahui Ako and school groups. Catherine completed her Doctorate in Education in 2024. Her research work was focused on what teachers think and do when designing curriculum and the process of recontextualising curriculum for schools and for the classroom. She has presented her research at the Pacific Circle Consortium conference (2022) and NZARE conference (2021).
