Following her start in Canadian primary schools, she held senior leadership positions, including Deputy Principal at Murrays Bay Intermediate and Vice Principal at the Canadian International School in Singapore.
Holding a Masters Degree with Honors in Curriculum Design, Anna-Marie is deeply committed to educational leadership and fostering school environments where purpose-driven educators can thrive. She feels privileged to work in such a passionate profession. Hayley Welch (Ngāti Whātua, Ngātiwai) is General Manager for the New Zealand Curriculum & Te Whāriki at the Ministry of Education. She is responsible for the curriculum data strategy, the achievement target reporting & recommendations and the development of curriculum and assessment resources and supports to enable effective delivery of the refreshed New Zealand curriculum.
Previous to joining the Ministry, Hayley held leadership roles in both public health and tertiary education. She spent 9 years leading the Student Recruitment strategy at Auckland University of Technology, working with secondary schools across the motu and strengthening the pathway into tertiary education. She is lead author of Te Kura Tapa Whā: Embedding an indigenous model of wellbeing into the learning environment which drew together her three interests of education, wellbeing and te ao Māori.
Hayley is proud Māmā to her three beautiful children. Guided by her tupuna and inspired by her tamariki, she is driven and determined to contribute to an education system that realises the aspirations and delivers outcomes for the mokopuna of Aotearoa.

Sam Gawn has been part of the Ministry of Education’s School Property Team since 2022 and works as a Property Advisor as the lead relationship manager supporting 40 Canterbury schools. In his role, Sam partners with school leaders to provide strategic and practical guidance across long‑term asset planning, capital projects, health and safety compliance, and emergency property issues.
He helps schools shape effective 10 Year Property Plans, manage risk, and deliver school‑led construction projects, while building capability and confidence within school leadership teams. Sam is committed to developing strong, solution‑focused relationships and ensuring each school’s property decisions align with Ministry priorities and the needs of their communities.

Kath Luoni is the principal of Menzies College, a coeducational school with 360 Year 7-13 students in rural Southland. She is an active member of the Southland Secondary Schools Principals Association having been Treasurer for the last six years. She also convenes the Southland Rural Principals Association and is a Beginning Principal Mentor.
Kath views leading as a privilege that comes with layers of responsibility that is often hard to grasp until it is experienced. She believes we owe it to ourselves and our communities to be as prepared as possible before taking on the role. As a Beginning Principal her number one focus was building a Senior Leadership that felt valued, trusted and supported as part of building the resilience needed to effectively lead change.

With over 35 years as a teacher, leader, and Principal, Shane is passionate about sharing his knowledge and leadership skills in the education sector. Shane is the current Principal of Whītau School, a culturally diverse school in Christchurch East. Shane is currently in his fifth year as an elected Executive Board member of the New Zealand Principals’ Federation, taking an active role in the Curriculum Pou and is the Business Partnership Convenor. As Immediate Past President of Canterbury Primary Principals’ Association, he has been actively involved in the regional leadership as an executive member for 13 years, with business partnership liaison and membership hauora as key portfolio areas undertaken.

Following her start in Canadian primary schools, she held senior leadership positions, including Deputy Principal at Murrays Bay Intermediate and Vice Principal at the Canadian International School in Singapore.
Holding a Masters Degree with Honors in Curriculum Design, Anna-Marie is deeply committed to educational leadership and fostering school environments where purpose-driven educators can thrive. She feels privileged to work in such a passionate profession. Sam Gawn has been part of the Ministry of Education’s School Property Team since 2022 and works as a Property Advisor as the lead relationship manager supporting 40 Canterbury schools. In his role, Sam partners with school leaders to provide strategic and practical guidance across long‑term asset planning, capital projects, health and safety compliance, and emergency property issues.
He helps schools shape effective 10 Year Property Plans, manage risk, and deliver school‑led construction projects, while building capability and confidence within school leadership teams. Sam is committed to developing strong, solution‑focused relationships and ensuring each school’s property decisions align with Ministry priorities and the needs of their communities.

Kath Luoni is the principal of Menzies College, a coeducational school with 360 Year 7-13 students in rural Southland. She is an active member of the Southland Secondary Schools Principals Association having been Treasurer for the last six years. She also convenes the Southland Rural Principals Association and is a Beginning Principal Mentor.
Kath views leading as a privilege that comes with layers of responsibility that is often hard to grasp until it is experienced. She believes we owe it to ourselves and our communities to be as prepared as possible before taking on the role. As a Beginning Principal her number one focus was building a Senior Leadership that felt valued, trusted and supported as part of building the resilience needed to effectively lead change.
