Announcing 2026 MCs taking the stage on the night, & featuring dinner Chef
2026 MCs: Heather du Plessis-Allan & Jamie Mackay
Heather du Plessis-Allan
Heather du Plessis-Allan is the host of the country’s highest rating afternoon drive-time show, NewstalkZB’s Heather du Plessis-Allan Drive. She is also a political columnist for the Herald on Sunday.
She has been a broadcast journalist for two decades, and has hosted TV shows and reported on politics from the press gallery in Parliament.
As a journalist, Heather covered the Oscar Pistorius murder trial in Pretoria, the 2012 London Olympic Games, multiple New Zealand elections and reported from as far afield as Antarctica and Gallipoli.
Jamie Mackay
A former accountancy student at Otago University and a Lincoln College graduate in agriculture, Jamie farmed at Riversdale in Southland for ten years before a brief and undistinguished career as a house-husband.
In 1994, he negotiated the purchase of 4ZG from Radio New Zealand, the first and only sale of a state-owned radio station to private enterprise, which went on to become Hokonui Gold. From there, the Farming Show took root before going nationwide on Radio Sport and then Newstalk ZB, rebranded in 2016 as The Country.
Jamie is an equity partner in a Southland dairy farm and is involved in a wetland restoration project on his home farm, where he also enjoys duck hunting with a few old schoolmates. In a past life a keen rugby player and marathon runner, these days he relaxes by getting wound up on the golf course.
In 2024 he was recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours (ONZM) for services to broadcasting and the rural community and, to top off a great year, was awarded life membership of his beloved Riversdale Rugby Club.
Featuring the best of NZ produce at awards dinner 2026
James Bratton, Beef + Lamb Ambassador Chef and Owner/Operator of Moxie Restaurant in Auckland
James Bratton is a highly respected Auckland chef and the driving force behind Moxie, the neighbourhood bistro he has built and led alongside his wife for almost a decade. With 25 years in the industry, he has developed a reputation for refined yet approachable cuisine that celebrates premium New Zealand produce.
He feels honoured and proud to be part of the beef and lamb story, viewing his Ambassador Chef role as an opportunity to deepen his understanding of the industry and the provenance of the produce he uses. In this role, he is passionate about making cooking more fun and approachable by breaking down barriers and sharing tips for home cooks, while staying true to a philosophy of letting quality ingredients shine, supported by bold, vibrant flavours.
